Our history

The Year of 1983

The AIT executive team draws inspiration from the historical influence of the Soviet-style ‘Intourist.’ Azer Ismayilov, Honorary President of the Company, forged connections with future team members and colleagues during his leadership at the Department of International Tourism Transport of Azerbaijan SSR. Together, they founded AIT LLC, shaping a legacy in the travel industry.

December 26th, 1995

Privatized in 1990, this transition granted us autonomy in the market, guided by our unique strategy and policy framework. Our core philosophy is to provide superior services to both local and global enterprises. These advancements allowed us to implement state-of-the-art international travel reservation software systems, offer comprehensive training to our ticketing and reservation staff, and establish partnerships with airlines, hotels, local and international tour operators, and other travel service entities based in Baku.

The Year of 1997

The year 1997 marked a momentous achievement as AIT LLC gained recognition from the International Air Transport Association, positioning us for standardized transactions within the IATA Airline community. This distinction opened doors to immersive training and qualification seminars, fostering expertise in finance, senior management, and a panoramic grasp of our enduring objectives.

The Years of 1998-1999

A pivotal juncture came in 1998-1999, when we secured exclusive representation and partnership with the esteemed Thomas Cook Worldwide Network UK. The collaborative spirit with Thomas Cook not only enriched our corporate culture but also honed our approach to engaging both corporate and regular clientele. Although the closure of the Thomas Cook Worldwide Network prompted shifts in our operations, we adeptly retained a niche in the market.

The Year of 2000

In the year 2000, a significant development transpired as AIT LLC became part of Business Travel International (BTI), a pioneering global travel management company. Renowned for its expertise in corporate travel solutions, BTI offered us a platform to enhance our offerings and deepen our industry insights.

The Years of 2006-2019

In 2006, as part of a strategic evolution, BTI shareholders chose to rebrand, leading to the transformation of BTI Azerbaijan into HRG (Hogg Robinson Group) Azerbaijan. Embracing a steadfast commitment to client value, HRG’s worldwide network was a repository of comprehensive travel consulting tools and e-instruments. This encompassing suite included travel management and service fulfillment, efficient transaction processing, consulting services, expense management, sports travel management, and event coordination. With a presence in over 120 countries, 3000 offices, 12,000 employees, and a substantial annual turnover of approximately 15 billion USD, HRG stood strong as a global industry leader. In 2019, HRG was acquired by American Express Global Business Travel.
